Comosa AG, a consortium of boxing promoters, is the company that runs the tournament. The company is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. It was founded in 2017 through a partnership between Richard Schaefer and Sauerland Promotions.
While announcing the plan to bring the WBSS, Head of Management Roberto Dalmiglio said that they aimed to create the biggest sport tournaments in boxing. Richard Schaefer, a renowned boxing promotion chief and part of the group, said that they were creating the biggest sports events which were present in other sport leagues but absent in boxing. Andreas Benz is Comosa AG's current CEO. The company employs seven people in total.
People often confuse the WBSS with The World Series of Boxing (WSB) a similar but defunct competition that brought together amateur boxers. It ran from 2010 to 2018 but went out of business citing recurrent losses.
