The World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) is a tournament that brings together professional boxers from around the globe for a stretched season of competition. Each annual season so far has run across two years. The inaugural season ran from 2017 to 2018 while the second one took place between 2018 and 2019.

After a break in 2020 due to the coronavirus enforced lockdowns, the competition resumed in June 2021. That season is still ongoing. The new season has incorporated a single-division tournament for women. The female boxers are of the Super Featherweight division.

Comosa AG, a consortium of boxing promoters, is the company that runs the tournament. The company is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. It was founded in 2017 through a partnership between Richard Schaefer and Sauerland Promotions.

While announcing the plan to bring the WBSS, Head of Management Roberto Dalmiglio said that they aimed to create the biggest sport tournaments in boxing. Richard Schaefer, a renowned boxing promotion chief and part of the group, said that they were creating the biggest sports events which were present in other sport leagues but absent in boxing. Andreas Benz is Comosa AG's current CEO. The company employs seven people in total.

People often confuse the WBSS with The World Series of Boxing (WSB) a similar but defunct competition that brought together amateur boxers. It ran from 2010 to 2018 but went out of business citing recurrent losses.

Unlike the WSB which brought together amateur boxers, the Super Series is a tournament for professionals. World champions from boxing bodies International Boxing Federation (IBF), World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Council (WBC), and the World Boxing Organization (WBO) are eligible for selection. The 15 top-ranked contenders for these belts by the four bodies (WBO, IBF, WBC, and WBO) globally are also eligible. A few back-ups are kept on stand-by in case any participant pulls out.

Camos selects the participants in an invitational format based on their boxing calendar. The participants are announced in a gala where the draw also takes part. In the televised draw, the four boxers seeded top pick opponents to face in the quarter-finals from a pot of four unseeded ones.

The bouts take place in two categories of eight boxers each, grouped according to weight classes. This is a knockout competition. Unlike conventional boxing competitions which have three judges, the WBSS has four. The winner in each category bags the Muhammad Ali Trophy which is named after the deceased iconic boxer. The winners also take home a $ 10 million cash prize from the available purse of $50 million.

How to bet on the World Boxing Super Series

Boxing bets are easy and straightforward. The moneyline bet, which predicts the outright winner, is the most common. It is also the best bet for starters since it is backed up by things like current form, stats and pre-match analysis. However, unless one is betting on the underdog, the winnings can be quite small.

Risker bets like the method of winning (points, KO, etc.), the round when the match will end, duration of the match, and card scores often pay much better. They also add the thrill of watching the match. However, given the risk attached, players should always bet small amounts on these outcomes.

The beauty of the WBSS is that it offers players numerous matches to bet of. For higher odds, punters can opt to place bets on the outcome of an entire season. This way, they can win a lot with a small stake if they are extremely lucky. Even if they lose, the money lost is insignificant. Making bets is also easier in this tournament because players can follow and document the action as the season progresses. The competition's official website has a lot of information that can help punters in making betting decisions.
